How to receive ADHD treatment in Japan

what is adhd?

To get access to treatment, it is first necessary to get diagnosed in Japan.

If you are looking to get diagnosed, we offer some tests options at our clinic, including a thorough WAIS-IV Test from 16 years of age. We also have the WISC version for children aged 6 to 16 years old.
You can click here to make a booking for an initial consultation with a doctor or the testing itself.

If you were already diagnosed in your home country, you will still need an official diagnosis in Japan to be eligible for ADHD medication. Please consult with our doctors first to understand which steps to take.

If you need refills and you have a prescription from abroad, our doctors will do their best to match your prescription to the medicines available here in Japan. However, please keep in mind that Japanese regulations can be very strict so getting some medications might be harder or not possible here. Please book a consultation with our doctors to consult about your case.

What kind of treatments for ADHD are available in Japan?

ADHD can be treated by either medication or ADHD coaching/therapy.

In Japan, medication for ADHD is highly regulated, and some medications you may be used to might not be available. Unlike other countries, the protocol is to start with non-stimulant medications.

Our doctors will do their best to help you find the best course of treatment to manage your symptoms, but please be patient. At Roppongi Clinic, we have doctors who can prescribe both non-stimulants like Strattera, or stimulants like Concerta.

Therapy, or ADHD coaching, can also be effective, as it can further help with improving self-esteem, time management skills and impulse control. Our trained therapists can help you better deal with daily challenges and personal struggles that might come with being someone with ADHD.

We recommend you to consult with a doctor to decide the best treatment path. Our clinic is able to offer full treatment for ADHD. Book now a first consultation.
