What is ADHD?

ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder that starts in childhood, which often manifests as:

  • restlessness,
  • inability to focus, sitting still, finishing certain tasks, and
  • acting impulsively.

It can seriously affect the person’s quality of life, as they can feel insufficient, inadequate or hopeless, and it can lead to other mental health problems such as anxiety and depression. It is a life-long condition that can come and go, and change over time depending on the case.

This disorder mainly presents itself in three different ways:

  • Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive
  • Predominantly Inattentive
  • Combined Presentation

With the right treatment, the condition can be effectively managed and its effects can be controlled enough that the person who has ADHD can live a normal life.
