About our therapy services:
Here at Roppongi Clinic we believe a holistic treatment for mental health is the best way to achieve mental wellness and overall well-being. To assist that, we offer therapy by psychologists with diverse international experiences who can support your journey in multiple languages.
In our experience, patients feel more comfortable and are able to express themselves more in their mother tongue, making therapy more effective in their preferred language.
Current languages available: Japanese, English, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish.
Our therapists mainly work one-on-one, using the CBT (Cognitive behavioural therapy) approach, but we also offer other types of therapy such as movement therapy and couples therapy.
Talk Therapy:
The therapist will listen to your current problems and address the root causes of the matter. It can be something that happened in the past, present or both. Life events such as loss of loved ones, big environmental changes and so on might cause or resurface various mental health disorders. Being aware of the root cause by addressing the issue with a therapist plays a crucial role in our holistic approach of treatment. Therapists will use a method tailored for each patient. Tools such as drawing or mindfulness may be used.
What is CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)?
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy (talk therapy) that explores how people’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours relate to each other. It is believed that these three are interconnected and therefore changing how we think can alter how we feel and act.
It is a form of talk therapy that will address unhealthy thought patterns and try to modify or reframe them so the patient is able to improve their emotional state. Together, the therapist and patient will work through practical strategies to cope with the issues that need work on.
CBT can treat a variety of mental health conditions such as: anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, OCD, bipolar disorder, PTSD, eating disorders, etc.
What is Movement Therapy?
Movement therapy, also known as Dance Therapy or Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT), is a form of therapy that uses movement as means of promoting emotional and mental wellness, and despite its name, does not necessarily use dancing (though it can be one of the instruments used).
Through the use of props, the therapist will be able to see how you act in different situations and how you respond to different stimuli. As we provide this as one-on-one therapy, the patient can be comfortable to express themselves at their own pace without judgment.
This form of therapy follows a belief that body and mind are interconnected and therefore one affects the other. For example, the way you move might tell a story about what you have been through or what you believe is true. Basically, how you feel can show through your actions, and changing your actions can change how you feel.
It is a highly holistic approach to healing, in line with Roppongi Clinic’s views.
It is especially recommended to those who find verbal communication challenging. Currently, there is only one therapist who does movement therapy at our clinic. You can book her directly on our Booking page.
What is Couples Therapy?
Couples therapy, also known as couples counseling or marriage therapy, is a form of psychotherapy that involves resolving conflicts and addressing concerns that a couple might have regarding their relationship. The licensed therapist acts as the neutral party who listens to you and provides guidance, helping them build trust with each other, better their communication and set goals for the future.
If both partners are willing to, it can be a great tool to maintain a healthy relationship, and can be beneficial for couples in all stages of their relationships, regardless of whether they have big issues or just want to enhance their connection.
At Roppongi clinic, we welcome couples from all different backgrounds, regardless of their status(married, unmarried), nationality, sexual orientation (straight/LGBTQ), beliefs (atheists, religious), etc. You can book this type of therapy with any of our therapists!
